We’ve made it to election day in the USA. We are up to the counting part.
Here’s why I voted the way I did. In 2016 I did not vote for either major party, feeling that the choices in either of those camps were either criminal or a joke. In 2020 it feels as if the major party choices were either criminal (again/still) or hope for something completely different. I am a sucker for hope. I even have the t-shirt. (Obama ’08).
The fact that, as a card-carrying Democrat, I’ve pretty consistently voted “Liberal”, only made this election more stressful. There were too many loose ends, too much criminality and too little hope on most of that ticket. Yet the party line is where my heart lies. What has happened is that my heart voted on all sides of available tickets, after a bit of research that included focus on what’s been done before; for every vote cast.
Here’s how that feels personally.
Relieved that it’s over. My vote has been decided & cast. There is no need to defend or explain it any longer.
Disappointed, frankly, that an event/announcement (of which so many have spoken of) did not occur before today.
Hopeful that we can all get back to seeing each other as fellow humans, sans color, now that we’ve made our choice. Glad to ditch the Red, Blue, Black, Pink etc. and see the entire spectrum.
Ready for whatever is next.
Apprehensive for whatever is next.
Determined that we will create it to be wonderful. This is our trademark.
For at the end of the day, we still have children to raise, meals to prepare, roads to fix, books to write, people to love, music to make, a planet to nourish and a race to heal. There is so much more ahead of us than has happened before (to us). It is everyone that will carry us into this next chapter, and that includes you. Keep your light switched on in these coming days, we’ll need the illumination.
